Digha is connected with Howrah with four sets of express trains: the Tamralipta Express, Duronto Express, Kandari Express and one weekly Paharia Express originating from New Jalpaiguri, running upto Digha via Howrah. For your information, let me tell you, the Tamralipta and the Kandari expresses are basically same set trains running with different names on a same day.

The best train to travel to Digha is the 12857 Tamralipta Express, departing at 06:40 hrs. and arrives Digha Flag Station by 10:00 hrs. Check in to the hotel or tourist lodge of your choice, go to see the sea and when you come back, have lunch and take rest in the afternoon.

About booking hotels in Old Digha or New Digha, it's better not to avail services of online hotel booking websites, they usually charge a lot more on per day basis and not on the total bill. There are hundreds of other hotels, not listed in travel websites, you'll never run out of options, so book your hotel on spot.

People often visit Udaipur, Talsari which are nearby beaches, but of no big difference than Digha sea beach, it's basically all the same. On the same trip, people often visit the Chandaneswar Shiv Temple which is in Balasore, Odisha, but be careful of the pandas (priests).

East Midnapur district is basically a very underdeveloped area, with only Digha showing up some crowd due to the sea beach. The entire length of the Digha railway station platform has no tea stalls, no newspaper stands, not a single public telephone booth, not a single television. That makes your waiting much much boring indeed.

And while stating the above, I should also mention about the food quallity, I have heard a lot of complains from many people, so I sticked to one particular fooding outlet, called the Nimanrtan Hotel & Restaurant, it's right on the lane approaching New Digha Sea Beach.

Be careful about which mobile SIM service you'll be using there in Digha. Before my journey, I recharged my Aircel prepaid with 2G/3G data pack, but there's no Aircel 3G signal in Digha; when I tried to get 2G there's no data incoming/outgoing! I had to recharge Vodafone 2G on spot via USSD. So, better to use a dual SIM device with two different company's services.

Lastly, Digha is not at all any attractive place to be, it's just a nearby short trip destination to spend 48 hours. And, if you ask me, I'd never go back to this place without any other reason.
